UCLan rises up the ranks

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is the UK’s biggest riser in the first establishment-ranking league table of the year. UCLan, which has campuses in Preston and Burnley, has risen by 27 places in the 'Complete University Guide 2020' and is now ranked 75th out of 131 institutions.

In the ‘academic services spend’ category, which measures expenditure on facilities including the library and technology, UCLan was placed 19th nationally.

The university’s ‘graduate prospects’ improved by 19 places while its ‘student to staff ratio’ was ranked 30th in the country.

There were also increases in the areas of ‘good honours’, ‘degree completion’, ‘entry standards’, and ‘facilities spend’.

It was also good news for a variety of subject areas. Forensic science was ranked in the UK’s top 10 and top in the North West.

Eight further areas of study at UCLan ranked in the UK’s top 20 – physiotherapy; general engineering; East and South Asian studies; dentistry; linguistics; hospitality, leisure, recreation and tourism; anthropology; and creative writing.
Liz Bromley, UCLan’s joint institutional lead, said: “The rise of 27 places is a great reward for the hard work everyone has put in to ensure we offer our students the very best experience.

“We have seen great improvements in our students’ employability prospects, where we are above the national average.

"And our retention initiatives are bearing fruit, meaning people irrespective of their backgrounds are fulfilling their potential and meeting their life and career goals.”
